Once in a blue moon, some people build institutions that will outlast themselves. Snakeweed Studios has shaped the sound of Singapore music for over two decades, and will continue to for years to come. In the fifth and final episode of BACKLINES, we speak to Snakeweed’s founder Leonard Soosay, his successor JC Chiam, and Pleasantry, who have grown up under Leonard’s wing. Amid a chorus of playful chiding, affectionate bickering and wild tour stories, they show us what finding a second family in music looks like, and what it means to carry a legacy beyond its founding generation.
Through heartfelt conversations and immersive performances across genres and generations, we celebrate some of Singapore’s most exciting musicians and vital individuals who continue to build culture from the ground up, one room at a time.
In this intimate portrait of the music ecosystem, they reflect on formative spaces past and present, why physical spaces continue to matter, and uncover the stories, friendships, and quiet acts of perseverance behind every open door.
