Silica Gel (South Korea)
Silica Gel is a South Korean indie rock band known for pushing the boundaries of psychedelia, art rock, and noise pop. Since forming in 2013, the quartet—Kim Geonjay, Kim Chunchu, Kim Hanjoo and Choi Woonghee—has crafted a distinctive sonic identity that blends experimental textures with infectious energy. Their name, inspired by the silica gel in a gum container, reflects the band’s spontaneous and adventurous approach to music-making.
From their debut EP Pure Sun (2015) to their 2023 album Power Andre 99, Silica Gel has continuously evolved, garnering critical acclaim and earning the Musician of the Year award at the 21st Korean Music Awards. Their collaborations, including NamgungFEFERE with Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast, showcase their versatility and willingness to explore new cultural and linguistic terrains through music.
Silica Gel performed at Baybeats on 2 Nov 2025, Sun, 10.10pm, playing to a super packed Arena (DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre at Esplanade).
About the festival
The 24th edition of Baybeats, presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, took place from 30 Oct – 2 Nov 2025. This year's festival was four days, instead of its usual three, and featured five stages, with the return of our Livewire Stage at the Forecourt Garden.
Each year, Baybeats works hard to bring together a diverse mix of alternative artists, from Singapore and around the world. Baybeats hopes to create a space where emerging and established artists share the same stages, where boundaries fade, and where a passion for music and shared moments are what truly matter.
As Singapore’s largest free alternative music festival, the success of Baybeats is built upon years of strong support from our independent music scene, from musicians and fans who have grown with the festival (and now bring their families along), to our Baybeats Budding Bands and first-time festival-goers. Baybeats thrives because of everyone’s unwavering support and belief in alternative music.
