Synopsis
Workshop: Alexander Technique for Singers invites singers to notice how they use themselves in singing and in everyday activities.
Facilitated by music educator Vivien Chong, a certified Alexander Technique teacher, basic anatomy will be introduced, including the skeletal structure and key muscles of the back. Through practical exploration, participants will encounter F. M. Alexander’s principles of Inhibition and Direction, Non-doing, Primary Control, and Psychophysical Unity. Activities explored in the workshop include Standing on One Foot, Whispered “Ah”, Walking Backwards and Going Back Against the Wall, with opportunities to incorporate vocalising.
Through this session, participants will develop greater awareness of habitual patterns that may interfere with their singing, and explore new possibilities for vocalising with greater ease and less unnecessary effort.
