Synopsis

Staging:

The lines symbolize a single impulse that branches into many paths, placing the dancer at a moment of choice

— to follow, resist, or redirect the energy.

Impulse explores the moment before movement—the breath, tension, and instinct that give rise to action. Blending contemporary sensibilities with classical form, the work reveals how technique emerges not from control alone, but from an inner necessity shared across a collective.

Impulse is commissioned by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay.

This programme is part of da:ns focus – Ballet by the Bay, a ballet lovers’ weekend of classics and neo-classical works. Be inspired by world-class productions and be introduced to new perspectives on this celebrated art form.
