Synopsis

Bond with your children and have fun learning together in these parent-child introductory dance workshops!

 

From 2023, Esplanade’s beloved dance platform, da:ns festival transforms into da:ns focus, an exciting year-round season of five themed weekends of distinct focuses. Each da:ns focus weekend will also be accompanied by introductory dance workshops for all ages.  

 

Leading up to da:ns focus: FL/OW – The FULL OUT Weekend taking place on 1 – 3 December, these street dance workshops will allow you to immerse yourself in our homegrown street dance scene across 18 sessions on 18, 19 and 25 November, taught by experienced Singapore dance instructors.

 

With genres ranging from hip hop to street jazz, K-pop to party moves, come on down and pick up your next favourite move with us!

 

This programme is presented as part of da:ns focus – FL/OW (The FULL OUT Weekend) on 1-3 Dec 2023, celebrating diverse facets of street dance through performances, workshops, battles and parties.

Advisory:

This workshop is specially designed for young ones aged 6-12 years old. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adult must be 16 years old and above.

About Elaina Pink

Since 2012, Elaina has been teaching K-pop dance to students of different ages and has also prepared them for performances and recitals. She has also competed in numerous K-pop competitions herself and has attained several achievements. She hopes to pass on her passion for dance and inspire her students.

 

About Converge Studios

Converge Studios operates across two branches, Dhoby Ghaut and Potong Pasir, serving as a sanctuary for dance enthusiasts of various levels and experiences. With more than 50 open classes a week to choose from, and an assembly of the most passionate, professional and personal instructors, there is always a class appropriate for everyone regardless of their concentration, level of experience, or training requirement. Housing a faculty of more than 50 instructors, each a specialist in their own genres, the studio strives to create what is truly a convergence of some of the best and most relevant in the industry.

About Lai Min Hui 

Min Hui started her journey in dance during her secondary days, eventually becoming a professional in the dance scene. She competed in numerous competitions like Super24 and Mediacorp’s The Dance Floor, World’s Supremacy Battle. She is also a dancer and has choreographed for various productions, and now teaches adults and kids at Danz People.

 

About Danz People

Danz People makes dance accessible to young people and adults through dance training, arts education, and community outreach programmes. Their mission is to create quality dance programmes, to provide dance education opportunities to the public, to encourage collaboration within the dance community, and to speak of the importance of the arts in all our lives.

 

Danz People’s curriculum includes hip hop, jazz and contemporary catered to both children and adults, seasoned and novice dancers, with courses for beginners as well. A recital is staged annually to allow all students to experience performing in a theatre setting, and to grow in more ways than one. Danz People is committed to the education of dance through their extensive curriculum and experience.

About the Workshop

An introductory workshop for both adults and kids to learn basic hip hop moves like the Running Man and the Bart Simpson, and be exposed to various styles of stylised rhythmic music.

 

About Jeremy and Denise

Jeremy and Denise are notable figures and instructors in the Singapore street dance community and have represented Singapore in numerous dance competitions in countries such as Japan and Malaysia. They have coached numerous institutions in Singapore and judged an array of dance competitions both locally and internationally.

 

About Artistate

Artistate is Singapore's first street dance academy that offers extensive street dance programmes suitable for all levels, from beginners to professionals. Housing a team of Singapore’s top notch dance instructors and experts in their field, Artistate provides quality education and focuses on the progression and excellence of their students.

About the Workshop

In this hip hop basics class, you will learn some of the party moves that came from the early days of party dancing before the term ‘hip hop’ was coined. Come join this fun class and boogie with a friend or two!

 

About Benjamin Yeo

Benjamin’s journey into the world of dance commenced at the age of 16. What started as a simple hobby has since blossomed into a profound passion, propelling him to new heights in the realm of dance and arts culture.

 

A pivotal milestone in Benjamin's dance expedition occurred when he became an integral part of the renowned NOOOICE! Dance crew. Together with his talented crew members, he embarked on a remarkable competition journey, culminating in an astounding victory at the esteemed Singapore Dance Delight Vol.7 in 2017. This extraordinary feat not only earned them the championship but also bestowed upon them the honor of representing Singapore at the prestigious Japan Dance Delight that same year.

 

About Noooice! Academy

Established in 2021, Noooice! Academy is one of Singapore's first crew studios and is known in Singapore and the region for its exceptional dance training. From experienced professional dancers with impressive careers to some of the most sought-after choreographers in the industry, our teachers are dedicated to ensuring quality in all aspects of dance.

About the Workshop

Designed to teach the iconic moves and choreographies of your favourite K-pop star, this energetic dance class will have you off your feet and grooving in no time! Experienced instructor Haikal Razali alongside assistant Sherisse Tay will break down each step for participants to follow along easily. Come discover your inner K-pop star and have fun with your young ones!

 

About Haikal Razali

Haikal Razali is a dancer, choreographer and instructor at O School, as well as resident trainer for ITE College West and Temasek Secondary School. He is also the founder and creative director of BLVCKARMY, a local dance crew in Singapore.

 

Haikal has competed in many competitions locally and internationally. In Singapore, he has competed in Super 24 2019, where he emerged as 2nd runner up. He has conducted dance workshops in Indonesia, Vietnam and Korea (Just Jerk Studio).

 

About O School

O School is a performing arts centre, established as a social enterprise in 2006 under the purview of MCCY with Institution of A Public Character (IPC) status effective from 21 November 2016.

 

O School aims to identify and develop youth dance talents and help grow the Singapore dance market, in order to help these talents build sustainable careers. To this end, O School has consistently developed various dance curriculums, coached institutional dance teams, as well as produced national and international events. In addition, O School also believes in developing the arts scene in Singapore by creating events to develop and showcase talents. O School has been actively creating avenues for dance enthusiasts to showcase their skills and techniques. 

About the Workshop

New jack swing, also termed new jack or swing beat, is a fusion genre of the rhythms and production techniques of hip hop and dance-pop, as well as the urban contemporary sound of R&B. If this is the style of music that gets you moving, then you don’t want to miss out on this class!

 

About Jin Wen

Jin Wen is a director, choreographer and instructor with a wealth of experience. He has performed and managed shows, taught classes and participated in several competitions.

 

His dance interest started back in 2003 when he received training at Nanyang Polytechnic's street dance club, Foreign Bodies.

 

Jin Wen has also choreographed and performed for Tribal DDB (Campaigns), Universal Music (Music Videos), Singapore Press Holdings (Roadshows), Mediacorp (Shows), People’s Association Youth Movement (Chingay), National Day Parades (NDP) and SEA Games Ceremonies. Sharing the joy of dance and connecting others through various art forms is what he loves to do most. With that, he has also shared his experience and knowledge through various dance programmes, hoping to inspire others through the process.

 

About EV Dance

EV Dance is one of Singapore’s leading dance companies, established in 2009 with the aim to provide local and international opportunities for diverse and engaging artistic experiences for children, communities, artists and audiences.

 

The dance studio offers beginner dance classes for a variety of age groups from kids to adults, offering a comfortable and enriching environment for anyone who wish to pick up dancing.
