A fearless voyager, explorer, pioneer and keeper of tradition, Dee Dee Bridgewater has ascended to the upper echelon of vocalists over the course of a multifaceted career spanning four decades. This jazz giant and multiple GRAMMY and Tony Award-winner has become well known for taking intrepid leaps of faith in re-envisioning jazz classics, parsing cuts from The Great American Songbook through her own singular artistic vision.

She earned her first professional experience with the legendary Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band, and then went on to share stages with jazz greats throughout the ‘70s, including Sonny Rollins and Dizzy Gillespie. In the ‘90s, she began producing her own work resulting in a string of influential records: 1993’s Keeping Tradition, 1997’s tribute to the late Ella Fitzgerald, Dear Ella, 1997’s Love And Peace: A Tribute To Horace Silver. Into the 2000s, she released the GRAMMY award-winning Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959): To Billie With Love From Dee Dee Bridgewater, before exploring other musical and spiritual roots in 2015’s Dee Dee’s Feathers and 2017’s Memphis… I’m Ready. 2025 brought the release of Elemental, the GRAMMY Award-nominated studio recording of Bridgewater’s collaboration with pianist Bill Charlap.

With film, television, Broadway, radio broadcasting and soundtrack credits, Bridgewater is an accomplished entertainment “polymath.” As she flourished in music, so did she in theatre, winning a Tony Award for her role as Glinda in the 1975 production of The Wiz. She continued garnering praise and acclaim for stage productions such as Lady Day, Sophisticated Ladies, Black Ballad, Carmen, Cabaret, among others. She also served as the namesake host of the long-running syndicated NPR radio program JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater. Off-stage, Bridgewater is equally accomplished: she is an NEA Jazz Master, Doris Duke Artist, Memphis Music Hall of Fame inductee, and global Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations.

Returning to Singapore after more than a decade, Bridgewater promises an intimate performance with her counterpart, pianist Helen Sung—a 2021 Guggenheim Fellow and graduate of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance—in one evening filled with sheer virtuosity and pure charm.
