Shaam-e-Sukhan
Synopsis
Ghazals have long been the language of longing, reflection, and quiet emotion—where poetry meets melody in its most intimate form.
Curated by Singapore-based composer and singer Sandeep Chatterjee, Shaam-e-Sukhan is a musical experience that journeys through this evocative tradition, weaving together Sandeep’s original compositions with timeless ghazals that have shaped the genre across South Asia. Performing at Esplanade for the 10th time, Sandeep will channel the artistry of Mirza Ghalib, Mir Taqi Mir, Momin Khan Momin and plenty more in this presentation.
Drawing from his albums Khwab, Haqiqat, and Saaz-e-Tanhai, Sandeep will also share a deeply personal repertoire of original works—rooted in the ethos of the ghazal while expressed through a contemporary musical voice.
Interwoven within this narrative are iconic pieces popularised by legendary maestros such as Mehdi Hasan, Jagjit Singh, and Ghulam Ali—artists who expanded the reach of the ghazal and brought its emotional depth to wider audiences.
While rooted in tradition, the repertoire also reflects the evolving expression of the ghazal—where classical structure meets personal interpretation.
Through nuanced interpretations, Sandeep revisits these classics while offering his own musical voice, accompanied by a thoughtfully crafted musical arrangement. Expect an evening of poetry, memory, and introspection, where every listener finds a reflection of their own unspoken emotions.
Sandeep will be joined by a team of accomplished musicians:
Debashish Adhikary – Harmonium
Subhendu mukherjee – Tabla
Elliyas Farid – Keyboard
Adithya Sathyanarayana – Violin
Kaushik Mukherjee – Percussion
