Synopsis

The students and alumnus of Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society present a showcase of dance pieces that highlight the classical Indian dance forms such as bharatanatyam, kathak and kuchipudi, through a vibrant tapestry of music, movement and storytelling.

Each set will feature a mix of different dance pieces, so be sure to stick around for all three sets!

The Dashaavatharam
Choreographed by G Narendra

The Dashaavatharam follows the magnificent journey of Lord Vishnu’s ten avatars, inspired by the eternal belief that whenever righteousness declines, the Divine manifests to restore dharma and balance to the world.

The presentation begins in the celestial realm of the cosmic ocean, evoking the serene and majestic image of Lord Vishnu reclining upon Adishesha. Set to the evocative composition Paalkadal Alai Mele, the dancers bring this divine vision to life through movement, music and expression, setting the stage for the journey of Vishnu’s incarnations.

Through the language of bharatanatyam, the performance celebrates these enduring stories of courage, protection and the triumph of righteousness, while reflecting on the timeless cycle of creation, preservation and renewal.

Shringar se Samarpan (From Adornment to Surrender)
Concept by Guru Jyotika Joshi
Choreographed by Guru Jyotika Joshi and Guru Minhaz Khan

Shringar se Samarpan traces the soul’s journey through three stages of life, from the playful innocence of mugdha and the yearning of madhya to the spiritual surrender of prauda. Culminating in milan, the illusion of separation dissolves as the seeker discovers that shyam, the divine essence sought beyond, has always resided within. Through kathak, longing transforms into love, rhythm and joyful awakening.

Ullasa Narthana
Choreography by Guru Nishitha Yabaji

Choreographed by the accomplished Guru Y Nishitha Ugesh, this Kuchipudi presentation of the kadhana kuthuhala thillana stands as a breathtaking confluence of agility, sculptural grace, and joyous vitality. This piece translates the inherent excitement and bubbling enthusiasm of its namesake raga into a visually arresting classical vocabulary. Blending intricate rhythmic patterns with playful expressions of Lord Krishna's divine play, this piece invites you to experience a pure surge of jubilation.

Tandav

Choreographed by Guru Aastha Chattaraj

This powerful kathak performance is inspired by Lord Shiva’s cosmic Tandava, embodying the eternal cycle of creation and destruction. Driven by intense rhythms, intricate footwork and dynamic movements, the piece captures the raw energy, strength and commanding spirit of Shiva.

Mohana Kalyani Thillana
Choreographed by Guru Nishita Joshi

Set to its namesake raga, this vibrant bharatanatyam presentation celebrates the rhythmic energy and grace of the classical dance form. Energetic and uplifting, the choreography brings together intricate footwork, precise movements and expressive formations while remaining rooted in the traditional vocabulary and structure of bharatanatyam.

Amaiza
Choreographed by Guru Aastha Chattaraj, Guru Nishita Joshi and Guru Nishitha Yabaji

Amaiza brings together bharatanatyam, kathak and kuchipudi in a vibrant celebration of Indian classical dance. Set to a fast-paced and energetic track, the three dance forms come together while retaining their distinct movement vocabularies and individual identities. As the performance builds in rhythm and intensity, the dancers unite on stage in a dynamic ensemble, creating a powerful sense of harmony through diversity.
