Synopsis

Featuring SIFAS students in bharatanatyam and kathak, this vibrant presentation brings together the rhythmic and expressive traditions of a thillana and tarana.

At its heart is the metaphor of the banyan tree, deeply rooted yet constantly growing and extending its branches. Like the tree, artistic traditions are nurtured through strong foundations before taking new forms and reaching new audiences. The dancers embody this journey of learning and growth, eventually spreading their wings to carry their art beyond borders and across generations.

While bharatanatyam and kathak form the core of the presentation, glimpses of other classical forms such as kathakali and mohiniyattam, along with Indian folk dance traditions, enrich the performance, creating a colourful tapestry of movement, rhythm and expression. Together, these diverse forms reflect how distinct artistic traditions can grow from shared cultural roots, flourish alongside one another, and continue to evolve through the artists who carry them forward
