Synopsis

‘One of the biggest music talents in Britain’ – Vogue

“Hailed as one of the most exciting musicians of his generation, Soumik Datta’s musical universe is as expansive as it is fearless”  – Tapestry Festival 2025

“Rooted in tradition and yet unafraid to challenge it” – Desi Blitz

Multi-talented British-Indian musician, composer and Aga Khan Music Award Winner Soumik Datta performs on the impressive 19-string fretless sarod. As a fervent champion for the preservation of Indian arts, Datta strives to bring this ancient Indian stringed instrument to new audiences on a global scale.

Mone Rekho (“remember” in Bengali) is an immersive concert that weaves Indian music with electronic hybrids, visual collages, cinematic scenes, personal anecdotes and bursts of comedy. This two-part production showcases Soumik transitioning between the roles of student, storyteller and master musician in a space that shifts from concert hall to classroom, care homes, and the streets of Kolkata. The audience leaves with plenty to contemplate, whether reflecting on lost memories or discovering something new. Intimate yet expansive, Mone Rekho stretches the imagination.

Savour the skills of this inspired virtuoso in a ground-breaking performance that fuses Indian traditional music with contemporary composition and storytelling.
