Synopsis

Step into a world where breath becomes melody and bamboo sings the stories of water. In this evocative evening with The Vamshika Quintet, celebrate the timeless artistry of the bamboo flute.

Featuring a collective of Singapore’s finest Indian bamboo flautists, this performance weaves original compositions inspired by Indian classical and folk traditions with beloved gems from the Indian classical and folk music repertoire. Led by multi-award-winning musician and composer Niranjan Pandian, the ensemble’s elegant sound flows with both reverence and renewal.

Rooted in the spirit of rivers—their ebb, surge and quiet resilience—the interlacing voices of the bamboo flutes will carry listeners through gentle currents and vibrant streams, echoing nature’s rhythms and the pulse of life itself.

Join The Vamshika Quintet for a luminous night where sound breathes, time softens and the flute becomes a bridge between the human spirit and the living world.

Brahmastra Arts House

Brahmastra Arts House is a trailblazing creative force dedicated to weaving music, language and culture into a tapestry of unity and innovation. Rooted in tradition yet boldly forward-thinking, they craft immersive live and digital experiences that bridge communities, generations and artistic disciplines—fostering dialogue and connection in an ever-evolving world. Founded by multi-award-winning artist Niranjan Pandian, Brahmastra Arts House stands on five guiding pillars: mentorship and empowerment, unity through diversity, storytelling shaped by sounds and texts, innovation in tradition, and cultural legacy and craftsmanship. The art house’s creative ecosystem thrives through a constellation of ensembles—Brahmastra Ensemble, Brahmastra Multi-Ethnic Ensemble, The Vamshika Quintet, NP Collective, and the Singhanagara Contemporary Orchestra—each a distinct thread in the fabric of their mission.

The Vamshika Quintet

The Vamshika Quintetis one of Singapore’s first Indian contemporary flute ensembles, led by Niranjan Pandian. Comprising five accomplished flautists, the ensemble explores five-part writing to present Indian classical and folk music through the rich timbres of Indian bamboo flutes such as the bansuri and venu.

Rooted in the ancient tradition of collective flute performance, The Vamshika Quintet reimagines this communal practice for the modern stage. By blending traditional Indian musical elements with harmonic progressions and contemporary forms, the ensemble strives to bring the rich repertoire of Indian classical music—as well as the wonders of the Indian bamboo flute—to audiences across the region.
