Synopsis

Embark on a lively and heartfelt journey through familiar sounds, songs and seasons with Bukit Batok Chinese Orchestra. Featuring traditional Chinese orchestral classics, look forward to highlights from Peng Xiuwen’s Twelve Months Suite, including movements from the First Month and Eighth Month, which paint musical pictures of changing seasons and festive moments. Well-loved classics such as Blooming Flowers and Full Moon herald a sense of joy and celebration, while Bountiful Harvest Festival captures the excitement of communal festivities. The journey concludes with the dizi concerto, Lan Hua Hua, a touching folk-inspired work known for its expressive melodies and emotional depth.

Founded in 1994 under the Bukit Batok Community Club, the Bukit Batok Chinese Orchestra (BBCO) brings together musicians and music lovers from diverse backgrounds. Over the years, BBCO has played an active role in Singapore’s arts and community scene, presenting large-scale productions at venues such as the Singapore Conference Hall, alongside regular performances at community celebrations including Lunar New Year, National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Today, BBCO continues to champion Chinese orchestral music through accessible and engaging performances, partnering with grassroots organisations to create innovative programmes for the public. As a self-sustaining orchestra, BBCO is committed to nurturing local musical talent and supporting artistic growth.
