Synopsis

Benedict Koh (bass, composition) and Andrea Cui (trumpet/flugelhorn) present an evening of poetry and improvisation. Experience the imagery of poetry through musical improvisation and sound, where words are reimagined through the music, and music responds to the spoken words.

Artist Information

Andrea Cui

Andrea Cui is a trumpeter and composer from Singapore, currently based in Boston, where he is completing his Diploma of Music in Performance at Berklee College of Music. He has previously studied at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and is a recipient of the Ray Kotwica award, the Al Natale Scholarship and the Berklee World Tour Scholarship. He has performed with celebrities such as Andreas Cepeda, Ledisi and Gilberto Santa Rosa. His playing can be heard on numerous records with both Singaporean and international artists.

Benedict Koh

Benedict Koh is a composer and bassist from Singapore, currently based in Boston. He has completed his Bachelors of Music in Composition and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music and is currently pursing his Master of Music in Jazz Studies (Composition) at New England Conservatory. He has studied and worked with a range of musicians, from big band composers to improvisers including Ayn Inserto, Joe Morris and Ken Schaphorst. He is the recipient of Berklee’s John Bavicchi Memorial Award in Composition and won Best Film Score at the 2021 Seoul International Short Film Festival. He has collaborated on various projects in free improvisation, working with dancers, multi-media performances as well and film scoring.
