Synopsis

“Boy, listen: what if I told you that your soul is too big for one person, for one body—one life?”

 

Novelist Daryl Qilin Yam reads excerpts from his novella Shantih Shantih Shantih, accompanied by the moving musical stirrings of guitarist Isuru Wijesoma. 

 

Shortlisted for the 2022 Singapore Literature Prize, Shantih Shantih Shantih captures the lives of a dozen individuals who so happen to witness a freak snowfall in Singapore, lasting 4 minutes and 26 seconds. During these two nights, join the artists for a special reading that promises to be just as ephemeral and unforgettable.

Daryl Qilin Yam

Daryl Qilin Yam (b. 1991) is a writer, editor and arts organiser from Singapore. He is the author of the novella Shantih Shantih Shantih (2021), shortlisted for the 2022 Singapore Literature Prize, and the novel Lovelier, Lonelier (2021), the Singapore nominee for the 2023 International Dublin Literary Award. He co-founded the literary charity Sing Lit Station. 


Isuru Wijesoma

Isuru Wijesoma has been playing the guitar for over 20 years. Using his custom-made, double neck guitar, he combines his experience in the blues, jazz and world music with Hindustani and Carnatic styles. He has played at numerous local and international venues ranging from the Singapore F1 Grand Prix and Kalaa Utsavam (2017 – 2021) to the Atman Festival (Sri Lanka) and Oz Asia Festival (Australia).
