The Relax Co. is as a music project by singer-songwriter and producer Art Fazil. He is an alumnus of London’s world-famous Kasmir Klub. He began playing the guitar at the age of 15 after discovering the band, Deep Purple. He started playing in London’s acoustic music scene as early as 1995 by busking at London Underground before progressing into open mics and other local festivals. He has played at several legendary venues in London such as Bungies, The Twelve Bar Club, Ain’t Nothing But The Blues Bar, The Rock Garden and eventually becoming a regular at The Kasmir Klub.
From 2000 to 2003, Art studied at the Guildhall School of Music in Drama. Between 2003 to 2008, Art had residencies at cafes, restaurants and pubs around London namely Fini, Ravin and Laurent in Soho on Frith Street, The Visible on Portobello Road, Mawar Restaurant on Edgware Road and The Bedford Pub in Balham. He left London in 2010 and moved to Southeast Asia where he worked as the in-house producer for Moro Records (Malaysia), dividing his time between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jogjakarta and Bali.
Art dabbles in a lot of styles, and has always been a fan of reggae, early ska and rocksteady music. Other musicians he enjoys include John Holt, Gregory Isaacs, Earnest Ranglin as well as the artists of Trojan Records. Having also worked part-time at The Grain Shop on Portobello Road, Art was exposed to Jamaican music and that is where he began writing reggae, rocksteady and ska music.
You Left Your Heart In Bali is The Relax Co.’s first single. This will be followed by a full-length album in early 2023.
