Synopsis

What started out as an excuse for Jam Lorenzo and RJ Mabilin to play music with an ever-revolving cast of friends is now spacedog spacecat. Featuring fellow Manila scene veterans Jerros Dolino, Marc Inting, Evee Simon, and Janine Samaniego, the band plays indie rock inspired by slackerdom and a constant longing for the beach.

Jerros Dolino (Drums)

Jerros Dolino has spent the last 20 years playing drums for some of the finest bands in the country. The 2005 NU 107 Rock Awards Drummer of the Year has toured and recorded with seminal acts Urbandub, Sheila and the Insects as well as Junior Kilat. As an enduring figure in the local independent scene, Jerros has also recorded and played drums for indie bands such as Children of the Pilgrimage, Read Between the Lions and Blidit.

Aside from spacedog spacecat, Jerros currently plays for reggae/world music pioneer Tropical Depression and dream pop act Megumi Acorda. A government lawyer by day, he spends his days drinking craft beer, watching Netflix and going to gigs.

Marc Inting (Bass)

Marc Inting is most known for being the bassist of alternative band Twin Lobster—which won the 2008 NU 107 Awards College Band of the Year—and indie pop luminaries Slow Hello. Slow Hello’s Audio Baby, which was released under Numberline Records in 2013, was hailed as one of the best local albums of the year and is still considered by many as an important record in Philippine indie pop lore. As an accomplished session musician, he has played with numerous bands who have helped shape the independent music scene, including Eggboy, Outerhope, Ang Bandang Shirley and the Purplechickens.

Jam Lorenzo (Vocals, Guitars)

Jam Lorenzo sings and plays guitar for cult slacker pop band The Geeks. Since its formation in 2013, the band has produced several acclaimed singles, EPs and albums that are now considered essential Filipino indie rock records. At the height of the pandemic, The Geeks released the single All my Favourite Songs which was described by local media as “arguably the best song that will capture these times and feelings.”

RJ Mabilin (Vocals, Guitars)

RJ Mabilin is an award-winning independent filmmaker and a leading figure for local music collective Alternatrip and upstart Manila-based label Catshelf Records. He also previously operated the legendary Redverb Studio, which served as home for a number of significant independent acts in the metro. As a producer revered in DIY circles, RJ has worked with a number of independent acts such as The Geeks, The Strange Creatures, Megumi Acorda, Rusty Machines, Identikit, and We are Imaginary amongst others.

Evee Simon (Vocals, Guitars, Synth)

Evee Simon was always meant to be in a band. A competent singer, songwriter and guitar player, she always wondered how her compositions would sound bathed in guitar fuzz and loud drums. Hence, her imminent transition from solo acoustic act to singer wielding an electric guitar in a band wasn’t a question of if, but when.

July XIV (Lockeddown Entertainment) was formed by Evee in 2015, and the band has remained a fixture in the local independent circuit. The single Hunger was released to acclaim, eventually being named one of the best songs of 2018. Aside from July XIV, Evee continues to play with bands such as Catshelf Records’ Megumi Acorda and spacedog spacecat.

Janine Samaniego (Vocals, Violin)

Janine Samanieg is a student, performer and teacher of music. As a touring classical musician and the current concertmaster for UP Symphony Orchestra, she has performed in prestigious festivals in countries such as France, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Italy. Janine frequently sessions for various Filipino artists and continues to play for independent bands including spacedog spacecat, Covert and Tuwina.
