Founded in Osaka in 1996 by saxophonist Mitsuhiro Furuya, KHAMSIN is a contemporary jazz band whose members are all performers and composers. The band features guitarist Takumi Seino, pianist Yuka Yanagihara, bassist Nobumasa Shiraishi and drummer Hiroshi "GORI" Matsuda. Their 2023 Detroit Jazz Festival performance earned them an encore—a rare moment in the festival’s history. Following Furuya’s sudden passing in 2024, the remaining members decided to keep the band going in honor of his legacy and their shared musical journey. KHAMSIN has released three albums—KHAMSIN in 1998, Blue Hour in 2018, and Asuka in 2024.
