(Intermission: None)
Esplanade Black Room
A prolific playwright and artistic director of Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre, Nick Yu’s works have consistently and precisely captured the pulse of urban living. How does theatre capture a city’s transformation and evolution? Yu’s distinct Shanghainese perspective offers valuable inspiration and reference.
Not only a creator with a keen eye for modern life, Yu is also a theatre promoter with an international vision. Moderator Liu Xiaoyi joins Yu for a session that explores the unique perspective of “Haipai” (Shanghai style) culture, and examines how Shanghai theatre connects with the world while maintaining its local characteristics and flavour.
This session is part of Huayi Dialogues, conceived and moderated by Singapore theatre practitioner Liu Xiaoyi.
Huayi Dialogues returns to examine and dissect the very core of theatre: its People and its Art. Co-curated with Singapore theatre practitioner Liu Xiaoyi, this year's edition features five illuminating sessions with theatre luminaries from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei, coming together to dissect the “bones” and “soul” of Chinese theatre.
