Esplanade Presents
5 Dec 2025, Fri, 8.15pm
(Intermission: None)
Esplanade Concourse
Journey into the rich world of 19th-century German Romanticism, where poetry and music intertwine to reveal the depths of human emotion. At the heart of the program lies the lyricism of Heinrich Heine, whose verses capture both the tenderness and the torment of love. Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Op. 48, stands as one of the most profound song cycles in the Romantic repertoire, embodying Heine’s bittersweet reflections on love with music of exquisite delicacy and intensity. Alongside it, Clara Schumann’s Sechs Lieder, Op. 13, reveals not only her distinct compositional voice but also her profound sensitivity to Heine’s poetic imagery. Together, these works are united in their shared devotion to both poetry and music.
