Choral Showcase: EVOKX

EVOKX was founded in 2011 as a non-profit community youth choir by Singaporean conductor and music educator Terrence Toh. The choir’s name is a portmanteau of the word ‘evoke’ and latin word ‘vox’, which embodies the group’s fundamental missionto celebrate the human spirit through the choral arts. EVOKX’s aim is to provide a platform for individuals passionate in choral music and singing to hone their art and develop confidence in performing–regardless of age, race, religion, or socio-economic background.

Since their inception, EVOKX has constantly showcased choral masterpieces over 14 full-length concerts, performing their interpretation of choral repertoire across music periods and genres, with a focus on contemporary composers.

EVOKX strongly champions the local choral scene, and has made it their focus to showcase local choral works to wider audiences.

The group has also been engaging in the exploration of less featured choral sub-genres in Singapore, to push the artistic boundaries of the local choral scene.

As a whole, EVOKX pursues artistic excellence and nurtures their singers’ artistic growth through an emphasis on educational pedagogy and the exploration of an eclectic choral repertoire. They hope to continue creating meaning with their music and to extend the unifying power of music and music making to the community at large.
