About Songwriting for Hope
Songwriting for Hope is a community engagement programme by Esplanade –Theatres on the Bay, in partnership with Diamonds On The Street. The programme seeks to provide vulnerable youths with an opportunity for deeper engagement through songwriting as a form of creative expression. Through a series of workshops, participants learn skills of song craft, with the aim of turning their crises into hope.
No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Crystal Goh
Crystal Goh is a singer-songwriter and the founder of Diamonds on the Street, a social initiative that works with individuals and communities to transform their wounded histories into songs and stories of hope. In 2011, she lost her voice to a rare neurological condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia. During that time, she discovered the importance of hope and the healing power of music. Since then, she has made significant progress and continually seeks ways to connect with others and share hope through music and stories.
Neo Ming Wei
Ming Wei is a classical pianist who has been active in Singapore’s music scene since earning two Masters in Music in the United States, where she also held a graduate assistantship. With a passion for composing and songwriting, Ming Wei won the first prize in a local songwriting competition in 2002. In 2014, she released an original album of piano music, Serenity. Her composition, Of Hopes & Dreams won the second prize at a mental health competition in Australia, Out From The Mist in 2022. Ming Wei enjoys collaborating with other creatives and loves to share the gifts that music has brought her.
Teo Poh Yin
Poh Yin sings primarily as a hobby. She regularly shares music covers and always has her ears pricked for new tunes. She typically performs acoustic-style with her vocals and guitar, adding her own twist to the music. As a busker, she sings on the streets, favouring chill English oldies and popular Mandopop songs. Her goal is to enliven the streets and bring smiles to people’s faces.
