Synopsis

Join Recorda WE for the debut of an unprecedented trio featuring Andreaz Rozario on piano, Umar Zakaria on bass, and Matthew Tan on soprano recorder (German). They perform a mix of standards from a variety of eras and originals, utilising a poly-intonation tuning system. They will also try to be very serious musicians. 

 

Recorda WE is founded on a blossoming friendship, the mutual appreciation for living lightly, the satiation of curiosity and erudition, and the shared love for all music including, but not restricted to, the tradition of black American music/jazz.

No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Umar Zakaria

Umar Zakaria from New Zealand, a bassist and composer, integrates diverse musical traditions in his music. In 2018, he was named Best Jazz Artist by Recorded Music New Zealand. He has performed extensively across Europe, Asia and the USA, sharing the stage with renowned artists such as Myele Manzanza, Norio Maeda, Snorre Kirk, Fabia Mantwill and Ben Wendel, among others. A student of legendary jazz bassists Cecil McBee and Lynn Seaton, Umar earned 2nd prize at the BASS2014 International Jazz Bass Competition.

Matthew Tan

Matthew Tan is an experimental sound researcher exploring the intersection of mathematics, music, software and hardware. He is currently focused on mathematical exploration in his shed while also contributing to the Xenharmonic Alliance of microtonalists.
