Synopsis

Freaky Control is a hands-on workshop by multi-disciplinary performing artist and science educator Kulu Orr. In this workshop, you will learn to construct digital musical instruments from household objects, play music with them, and understand the underlying science and technology behind the award-winning show, Control Freak.

 

Don’t miss this chance to learn some creative ways to utilise digital technology in performance, first-hand!

 

Catch Kulu in action at the live performances of Control Freak from 2 – 4 June 2023 at the Esplanade Recital Studio.

 

Notes:  

  1. You will need to bring either a smartphone (Android or Apple iOS device) or a portable computer (e.g. laptop, iPad) that can connect to WiFi for the workshop. Please ensure that your device is sufficiently charged to enable at least 1 hour of usage during the workshop.  

  2. No prerequisite skills or knowledge are required.

     
Advisory:

Tickets are sold in either twos, threes or fours. You will be working in groups.

 

Children below the age of 10 need to be with an accompanying adult. Each ticket admits one. Accompanying adults must be 16 years old and above.

Kulu Orr is a multi-disciplinary performing artist based in Israel and Europe.  

 

Over the past 25 years he has studied and trained extensively in two fields: On the one hand circus arts, music and theatre; and on the other hand, physics, computer science and audio-visual manipulation.  

 

With university degrees in physics and mathematics, work experience as a high-tech R&D team leader and a rich history of successful theatre productions, Control Freak is a product of over two decades of exploration and research.
