Workshop: An Introduction to Bon Odori Dance
Synopsis
HIBIKIYA invites you to an introductory Bon Odori workshop to learn more about one of Japan’s most joyful festival traditions! Bon Odori is a traditional Japanese dance that is often performed during Obon, a Japanese summer festival in remembrance of one's ancestors. The dance is designed to be simple, repetitive and easy to follow such that anyone, young or old and regardless of dance experience, can easily join in and enjoy themselves.
Through the rhythms of live music and festive spirit, HIBIKIYA will take you through different Japanese folk songs and teach you the communal dances associated with them. Don’t miss this chance to try something new, connect with others and celebrate Japanese culture through music and dance!
*Participants should come in comfortable clothing for ease of movement
