One of the nation’s most versatile and distinctive art song practitioners – The Straits Times

Women of Kurt Weill is an intimate evening of music and storytelling, bringing together songs about love, dreams, longing, humour and the strength to carry on. Through these songs, Khor Ai Ming explores the different women and characters in Weill’s music. Some are tender and vulnerable, some are outspoken and witty, and each has her own story to tell. The programme journeys through the musical worlds of Berlin, Paris and Broadway, featuring songs such as Youkali, Surabaya Johnny, Speak Low, My Ship, September Song and Mack the Knife. Moving between quiet reflection and lively theatrical moments, the evening reveals the many colours of Weill’s music. Ai Ming is joined by Bertrand Lee on piano, Tony Makarome on double bass, Sebastian Ho on guitar and Tamagoh on drums. With simple, evocative staging and reflections between songs, the concert brings the performers and audience together in the warm atmosphere of a cabaret salon—an evening to enjoy the music, follow the stories and meet the women of Kurt Weill.
