Pianist-composer Nicholas Ho presents CONTINUUM, a programme tracing the evolution of piano music across three centuries. Opening with his own Étude I “Odyssey”, the recital journeys through Beethoven’s inventive 32 Variations in C minor, WoO 80 and Scriabin’s Evocative Sonata-Fantaisie, before arriving at Ho’s cycle of preludes, Before I Held You — Nine Little Preludes for Piano, Op. 16, written for his daughter Elisa.
The second half explores two contrasting works by Chopin: the dramatic Scherzo No. 3 in C-sharp minor and the luminous Nocturne in E-flat major, Op. 55 No. 2, before culminating in Prokofiev’s Sixth Sonata, a monumental twentieth-century masterpiece whose restless energy and uncompromising intensity push the instrument to its limits.
Bringing together music by Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin and Prokofiev alongside his own compositions, Ho invites audiences to experience a living continuum of musical thought, where the traditions of the past find new expression through the voice of a living composer.
