Die Schone Mullerin

New Opera Singapore presents a ground-breaking staged production Die Schöne Müllerin. Franz Schubert’s beloved song cycle is reimagined through the lens of digital isolation and unrequited longing in the modern era. Set in contemporary Singapore, the story follows a reclusive young man whose world is largely confined to his room and computer screen. He plays a computer game and falls in love with the main the character of the game, the Müllerin. As he weaves fantasy from fragments of the game, the line between reality and illusion begins to blur. The production explores themes of loneliness, obsession, and the emotional consequences of one-sided digital intimacy, all underscored by Schubert’s timeless music.
