Influenced by plants found on city streets, discarded items on the roadside and objects found in everyday life, Hans Chew studies the value of making things.
Among the variety of objects, there is a mix of functional and non-functional, necessary and not necessary, and those that are no longer needed — either discarded or left abandoned.
Hans uses simple, hand-made ceramic parts to soften the contours of these mass-produced industrial items. By combining the unique properties of ceramics with standardised products that have socially defined uses, he hopes to assemble a repository of objects that contemplate our anthropic relationship with things in the environment.
