In this talk, artist Xinwei Che invites participants to escape the rush of the everyday and experience time expansively through the rhythms of clay and water. She shares her interest in geology, mending, traditional Chinese medicine and offers a brief sensory meditation through clay wedging.
This programme is held in conjunction with the exhibition Holding Time《实 · 空》by Xinwei Che.
Mask-wearing is optional. However, audiences are encouraged to continue to exercise responsibility and caution, such as wearing masks when in crowded places.
Xinwei Che
Xinwei Che (b.1992) has a material-centered, temporal practice. She attends to the rhythms of material movements to expand time and resist its easy commodification. Che holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design (2015) and an MFA from Emily Carr University of Art & Design (2022). She was awarded the National Arts Council of Singapore Overseas Art Scholarship in 2011, the Young Talent Programme Prize in 2017, and was nominated for the Lind Prize (Canada) for her performance-film, Laying Ground. Che has exhibited internationally and attended artist residencies at Treasure Hill Artist Village, Taiwan (2022), YAE National Art Gallery of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2019) and Vermont Studio Center, the United States (2018).
