MOJO Chinese Orchestra
MOJO Chinese Orchestra is a dynamic volunteer-based community orchestra dedicated to championing Chinese orchestral music in Singapore. Born from Jonathan Ngeow's Master of Music Leadership capstone project at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, MOJO's inception was sparked by a collaborative dialogue with esteemed conductor Moses Gay. What began as an exploration of establishing a community Chinese orchestra has blossomed into a vibrant musical collective that serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and passion for Chinese music advocacy.
Since their debut at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, MOJO has actively engaged Singapore's cultural landscape through diverse performances and educational initiatives. Highlights include an electrifying appearance at Esplanade's Huayi – Chinese Festival of Arts 2025, where Spring Leap brought festive energy to the DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre, captivating audiences with vibrant works that celebrate Chinese orchestral traditions.
Beyond performance, MOJO remains committed to nurturing emerging talent. Their two-week Chinese orchestra workshop at United World College of South East Asia – East campus in May 2025 culminated in a memorable side-by-side showcase, where MOJO members and students performed together as one ensemble. This hands-on mentorship embodies the orchestra’s dedication to inspiring young musicians and building a thriving, inclusive community united by a shared passion for Chinese orchestral music.
