Synopsis
Somewhere in your family, a sari sits folded in a cupboard, worn once to a wedding and stored ever since.
In 2025, Rishabh Sharma turned one of his mother's saris into a shirt on a whim and posted a video of it. Soon, strangers were filling his inbox, asking where they could get their hands on one. And so, together with childhood friends Ajinkya Kulkarni and Laavanya Kejriwal, he started The Dori, giving pre-loved saris a second life as shirts anyone can wear.
Join Rishabh and Ajinkya as they share what they have learnt as newcomers to entrepreneurship, and how starting The Dori has opened their eyes to South Asia’s rich and complex textile traditions. From the Eri silk of Assam, a “peace silk” spun from cocoons left behind by moths, to Kalamkari, the hand-painted cloth tradition of Andhra Pradesh, discover the stories, techniques and traditions woven into these fabrics.
Run your fingers over the fabrics on display, bring your questions along, and perhaps share a sari story of your own.
