Synopsis
Celebrated playwright He Jiping has skillfully straddled the historical gravitas of Beijing and the commercial agility of Hong Kong, creating much-loved works such as Beijing People’s Art Theatre’s classic The Top Restaurant and the martial arts masterpiece New Dragon Gate Inn.
In this dialogue, He Jiping shares her unique perspectives on finding stories in the cracks of history and her insights into the human condition as moderator Liu Xiaoyi joins her in a session that also dissects the creative logic behind the “Golden Screenwriter” and finds out how a truly good story is born in an era where good scripts are hard to come by.
This session is part of Huayi Dialogues, conceived and moderated by Singapore theatre practitioner Liu Xiaoyi.
Huayi Dialogues returns to examine and dissect the very core of theatre: its People and its Art. Co-curated with Singapore theatre practitioner Liu Xiaoyi, this year's edition features five illuminating sessions with theatre luminaries from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei, coming together to dissect the “bones” and “soul” of Chinese theatre.
