Synopsis

Audiences often wonder what a music director or conductor actually does. Is it just waving arms in the air and sending mysterious signals to the ensemble?

This masterclass demystifies the role, offering insight into how a music director or conductor shapes an ensemble’s sound and direction. From leading a small traditional group to a Western classical orchestra, participants will have the chance to conduct a small ensemble performing familiar tunes, exploring how different directions influence the music. Designed to be both fun and informative, the session welcomes participants of all ages.

Gemadah – Traditional Malay Music Festival is presented by Persatuan Pemuzik Tradisional Melayu Singapura in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay as part of Esplanade's Pentas series.
