Esplanade Presents
22 Jun 2026, Mon, 7pm & 7.45pm
(Intermission: None)
Esplanade Concourse
Chelle & Ailouros presents original songs and multilingual poetry expressing hiraeth, a Welsh word with no direct English translation and understood as a yearning for home. For a place, time, person or that which may never return. In seeking remedy for longing, a new song honouring 一期一会 (ichi-go ichi-e), a Japanese idiom referring to impermanence, the unrepeatable in life, was created. Catch the premiere of their new song along with song-poetry on nature and life in Japan during the pandemic.

Chelle & Ailouros (ancient Greek for “cat”) is home and playground of poet-vocalist Michelle C as an emerging songwriter, melding performance poetry with original and improvised music.

They premiered at Across the Music Verse, Poetry Festival Singapore (2024) and have since performed at Singapore Writers Festival (2024), Foreword (Esplanade) and Eden Jazz Night at the Jazz Loft (2025).
Chelle conjures nature, childhood, Singapore and life in Japan in poetry anthologised in the New Landscapes Anthology (2019) by Lungs Project (UK/ USA).
