What does it sound like to be alive?
By improvising with a contact microphone on the body, employing extended vocal techniques, and drawing from an archive of bodily recordings of loved ones, the performer explores the body as a sonorous object.
Offering a glimpse into Suhui’s ongoing research Ill Behaviour, thingness is a listening room for the body as is. The audience is invited to listen inwards, to witness the body as a porous, pulsing chamber of sound, and its friction and coalescence with technology.
No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Hee Suhui (Anise)
Suhui Hee 徐苏慧 is a transdisciplinary queer artist, composer and electronic musician working across mediums of sound, movement, performance, and experimental scoring.
Her music, under the moniker Anise, is an entropic, cinematic fusion of harsh glitchy beats cutting through shimmering vocals, field recordings, and chamber music, blending the grotesque and beautiful.
Her current research, Ill Behaviour/Autophony, is an experimental audiovisual and performative work that deconstructs auscultations, listening closely to the (ill) body.
Composed entirely of processed, distorted and fragmented endogenous bodily sounds, blended with recorded and live samples, the 45-minute entropic soundscape is accompanied by Anise's improvised vocals and movement—at times operatic and ethereal.
