String-tales tells the story of the dynamic collaboration between the guzheng and Carnatic violin. The duo draws inspirations from Indian classical music, Chinese folk and classical traditions, and various other sound worlds. Through their fluid interplay, they celebrate the evolving language of musical collaboration.
No tickets will be issued. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Chan Xin Tong
Chan Xin Tong is a musician deeply passionate about cross-cultural music collaboration, constantly exploring and immersing herself in various musical traditions. Starting with Western classical music on the piano and Chinese music on the guzheng, she has since collaborated extensively with Indian classical musicians in Singapore, incorporating elements of Indian music into her guzheng playing. She has also composed music for mixed ensembles featuring diverse ethnic groups. Currently studying at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (Singapore), she spent a year at the Sibelius Academy (Finland) as part of the Global Music Programme, where she collaborated with musicians from around the world. Through her experiences, she strongly believes in music’s power to foster understanding and connection among people.
Sreeranjani Muthu Subramanian
Sreeranjani Muthu Subramanian is a Carnatic violinist currently studying under Kalaimamani Embar S Kannan. She actively performed fusion concerts with the Swarhythm Yuva Ensemble, mentored by Nawaz Mirajkar, and with the Indian Fusion Ensemble at the School of the Arts (SOTA) Singapore. She completed aneight-year diploma course in Carnatic violin with distinction at the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) under Guru Nellai Ravindran. She has received accolades from the National Arts Council at the National Indian Music Competition (2017 and 2020). She also completed her IB Diploma at SOTA, Singapore, in 2024.
