Synopsis

Embark on a musical journey with Alunan Kampung Gelam as they weave together folk songs from Singapore and the Nusantara, Australia, Ireland, Scotland, England and Scandinavia. Joined by Li Jiaqi, Thaddeus Chung Yu, Pip Clark, Henry Ashworth and Riduan Zalani, the music collective invites audiences to traverse a series of physical and metaphorical soundscapes. Through song and story, Travel These Ways reflects on the experiences of leaving home, returning and rediscovering ourselves along the way.

Alunan Kampung Gelam

Alunan Kampung Gelam is a music collective founded in 2023 by Faizah Jamal, a third-generation Kampung Gelam resident, with her children Azura and Almira. Inspired by their father/grandfather, baritone Ahmad Jamal of Radio Malaya, they continue the musical legacy of their heritage-rich neighbourhood. The collective draws from a rich and eclectic palette of musical interests spanning opera, classical music, Irish/Scottish folk music, songs from the Nusantara, and beyond.
