Synopsis

Dreaming Life blurs the boundary between waking and dreaming through an evocative blend of ruan, singing bowls and Chinese dance. Inspired by Zhuangzi’s Dream of the Butterfly, the piece explores impermanence, transformation and our search for meaning in fleeting moments. Structured as an improvised score, sound and movement respond intuitively to each other, creating a fluid emotional landscape where traditional instruments breathe life into the piece.

 

This performance invites audiences to reflect on identity, reality and consciousness in today’s fast-changing world, offering a quiet meditation on being and becoming.

Neil Chua is a pioneering ruan musician based in Singapore, known for innovative cross-cultural collaborations. He founded RuanAtWorkz Musical Arts to promote traditional arts in contemporary society. His works blend heritage, sound healing and social engagement, redefining the role of traditional instruments today.

Li Rui Min

Li Rui Min is a Singaporean dancer and choreographer trained at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Beijing Dance Academy. A NAC Arts Scholarship recipient, she has performed internationally, created acclaimed works like Resolute and Gui Lai, and received awards including the Singapore International Dance Festival Gold Award.
