The UWCSEA East Dragons Circus has been running at the college for over 13 years, giving students the opportunity to learn a wide variety of skills, including juggling, unicycling, stilt walking and aerials. These skills encourage creativity, resilience and teamwork, while also providing entertainment at many community events throughout the year.
The college’s annual circus show is a spectacular student-led production that transforms the main hall into a professional looking "big top". Featuring as many as 100 performers, the show showcases a diverse range of disciplines, combining traditional circus skills with drama, dance and gymnastics. It brings the whole community together, with middle school and high school performers providing a wonderful end-of-year treat for younger students in the audience.
More than just entertainment, the circus highlights the school’s holistic learning programme, integrating academics, outdoor education and service. A central element of the production is its long-standing partnership with the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation in Vietnam.
This collaboration sees East campus students performing alongside young people from Blue Dragon, many of whom are survivors of trauma or human trafficking. Through ticket sales and community support, the show has raised well over S$10,000, aiding Blue Dragon’s mission of rescuing and empowering street children.
The circus serves as a powerful reaffirmation of purpose for the community, demonstrating how the arts can bridge cultures, build confidence and create a profound sense of belonging for all involved.
