Esplanade Presents
27 Jul 2025, Sun, 7pm & 8.15pm
(Intermission: None)
DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre at Esplanade
Big band music dominated the 1940s, a golden era when swing was at its zenith. Iconic bands like Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Count Basie and, of course, Glenn Miller, defined the sound of the time. Thomson Big Band will bring this magic to life with a performance of A String of Pearls, a 1941 classic recorded by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra, whose music has become synonymous with the 1940s vibe. Fast-forward to the present, and you’ll experience smooth jazz with Second Chances, a beautiful composition by American composer John Oddo, who passed away in 2019.
Thomson Big Band

This vibrant ensemble boasts a rich history, having performed on local television and at major jazz festivals and events across Malaysia, Japan, Australia, and India. They’ve also played in Thailand for His Majesty the King of Thailand. The band has collaborated with international jazz stars Ernie Watts and the late Eldee Young. Renowned for their excellence, Thomson Big Band was honoured to perform for the Prince and Princess of Monaco at the Monaco Ball in Singapore.
