Synopsis

Join us for this special edition of Everybody Dance Now, a popular series by Esplanade’s da:ns focus where everyone is invited to take part and experience dance through beginner-friendly sessions!

Presented as part of da:ns focus – Connect Asia Now, this programme conducted by Associate Artistic Director Lee Ching-chun, introduces an essential part of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan’s physical training, Tai Chi Dao Yin. Developed by Master Hsiung Wei and based on the principles of traditional tai chi, the practice uses breathing, relaxation and focused awareness to help the body release tension. Through gentle, unhurried movements, participants are invited to experience the body’s natural flow from within. This programme offers a glimpse into some of the physical training principles that inform Cloud Gate’s movement practice and its full-length work, Sounding Light.

Designed for the general public, this programme requires no previous experience in dance or tai chi. Beginning with simple breathing and relaxation exercises, the session gradually deepens into spiralling movements that engage the body’s nine major joints. Lee will guide participants step by step into the practice of Tai Chi Dao Yin, inviting them to experience how movement begins from within and unfolds outward. This forty-minute session is an invitation for participants to step away from the bustle of everyday life, reconnect with their bodies and experience moments of stillness, calm, and physical and mental release.
