Synopsis

Through two captivating sets, you are invited to relive and journey through the golden age of Malay cinema, where music, dance and storytelling intertwined to capture the heart of a generation.

 

1st set: Melodi Layar Klasik Melayu (Melodies of the Classic Malay Screen)

Experience the golden era of Malay cinema, where timeless melodies brought stories to life on the silver screen. This segment celebrates traditional Malay songs that once graced classic films, capturing the emotions, culture and artistry of their time. From heartfelt ballads to lively folk tunes, each piece showcases the richness of Malay musical heritage and its enduring charm. Relive the magic of cinematic history through the evocative power of these songs.

This segment highlights traditional Malay songs that were commonly featured in classic films, often accompanied by traditional dance performances. Irama Tari Gemalai honours these enduring melodies, celebrating the richness of Malay cultural heritage and artistic expression, while capturing the elegance, beauty and spirit of a bygone era.

Muara Festival is presented by Era Dance Theatre in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay as part of Esplanade’s Pentas series.

Artist Information

Nobat Kota Singa

Nobat Kota Singa (NKS), established in 2011, is a Malay traditional music ensemble committed to preserving and innovating the Malay musical heritage. Their music includes Inang, Zapin, Asli, Joget, and Keroncong, blending traditional styles with modern touches to create a unique sound. NKS has performed internationally at events in Indonesia, France, Poland, Bulgaria and Belgium, and locally at major events like Harmony Fest’24 and the Muslimin Trust Fund Association 120th Anniversary Gala.

 

They also perform at weddings and celebrations, and have collaborated with artists such as Haziq Rosebi, Dato' Ramli Sarip, Taufik Batisah, Iskandar Ismail, Roslan Madun and Imran Ajmain. Notable performances include Imbas: Perjalanan (2017) and Irama Laguku (2025), continuing their mission to keep Malay traditional music alive and evolving.
