Awarded the COMPASS Artistic Excellence Award in 2015 for her outstanding contributions to the nation’s cultural landscape, she is acclaimed for her ability to move seamlessly between classical, contemporary, and cross-cultural repertoire.
Renowned for her expressive range and musicianship, Ai Ming is frequently invited to present world and Singapore premieres of major new works. Among these are Gottfried von Einem’s Der Besuch der alten Dame (as Claire Zachanassian), Schoenberg’s complete Pierrot Lunaire cycle, Berio’s O King, Gaslini’s Magnificat, Paul Wilson’s Spiritus, Messiaen’s La Mort du Nombre, Juhi Bansal’s The Lost Country of Sight, Tony Makarome’s Shiva, and Jeremy Monteiro’s Shakti Dance. She has also been a featured soloist at national celebrations, performing the theme song of the Chingay Parade (2011, 2014) and Iskandar Ismail’s Music for Fireworks at the Marina Bay Countdown (2012).
Her 2013 performance of Pierrot Lunaire under the Esplanade Spectrum Series with the Asian Contemporary Ensemble received critical acclaim from The Straits Times, which also described her annual solo recitals at the Esplanade Recital Studio as “a keenly awaited fixture in the concert calendar.”
Praised for her “gloriously communicative personality and innate musicianship” (The Straits Times), Khor Ai Ming continues to captivate audiences with performances that embody both sophistication and emotional depth. She holds a Fellowship in Voice (FTCL) and continues her studies under the guidance of international opera singer Ning Liang.
