Synopsis

BEATS AND DOODLES by Cherry Chan invites both children and busy adults into PIP’s PLAYbox to listen and draw. Participants are encouraged to make spontaneous shapes, patterns and scribbles – intuitive and natural expressions borne from listening moments.

 

With no pressure to finish or "get it right," BEATS AND DOODLES is a meditative, process-driven experience, where responding to sound becomes a gentle exploration of presence, texture, and movement.

 

In this special Baybeats edition, Cherry shares an exploratory DJ mix of jazz, psychedelic rock, ambient and experimental music from Asia while participants freely respond with sketches and mark-making.

Advisory:

  • Please register at the entrance to PIP’s PLAYbox. Every human, big or small, needs to be registered, including infant-in-arms.

  • Registration is open to all Esplanade&Me members. If you’re not a member yet, please sign up for your free Esplanade&Me Discover membership ahead of your visit.

  • Entry is only for children accompanied by adults.

  • Slots are limited. In the event, maximum capacity is reached, only one parent per child may be admitted.

Cherry Chan @thefakecherry is the co-founder of artist collective/music label Syndicate. She began her BEATS AND DOODLES series to encourage calm doodling and mark-making in the spirit of free expression set against her favourite cuts of electronic beats and music.

 

Cherry also helms Brilliant Corners Club, a pop-up art x social club activating public spaces. She has been featured by The Fader (US) and Billboard.com for her music selection and has performed at A Taste of Sonar (UK), Worldwide Festival (FR) and Low End Theory (US).
