In Our Manner of Speaking is a recital series developed by The Opera People that addresses contemporary issues and ideas through song. In the fifth edition of the series we turn to one of the most pressing issues of our time, climate change and our relationship with nature. Altered States explores the relationships with nature that we have lost, alternate ways of seeing the world that we have taken fore-granted and finding a way through the crisis by returning to nature.

Featuring two newly commissioned song cycles by Tan Yuting, with poems by Samuel Lee, and Jonathan Shin, set to texts by Joel Tan, Altered States also features songs by Nico Muhly, Jake Heggie, and David Ludwig.

Performed by Akiko Otao, Teng Xiang Ting, Kira Lim and Reuben Lai, accompanied by Jonathan Shin.
