This amazing musical is an immersive, heart touching experience that incorporates mesmerising songs woven along with sensational choreography of dances. Devdas the book is a larger-than-life and spectacular interpretation of the most famous love saga in Indian Literature, penned by legendary Indian writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.
It is the story of Devdas and Paro, childhood sweethearts who harbour intense feelings for each other. They are torn apart when Devdas is sent away to London by his father, a local zamindar (landlord), to study law. Years later, when Devdas returns, love between Devdas & Paro intensifies culminating in Paro asking him to marry her. Their dreams are short-lived… Devdas is forced to reject the proposal as Paro does not match the status of his family. Stunned by this ordeal, Paro agrees to marry an elderly widower. Devdas drowns himself in sorrow and seeks solace in the company of a glamorous courtesan, Chandramukhi. It is now his destiny to hurtle relentlessly on the path of self-destruction. But isn’t hope a good thing? And no good thing ever of dies.
Now experience this new adaptation, a work of art and heart that brings the classic tale of star-crossed lovers alive, with celebrated theatre and Bollywood artists from India such as Sunil Kumar Palwal, Aanchal Chauhan, Bhavna Pani, Jayesh Thakkar & Smita Jaykar, who play key roles in the musical. Adding to the star-studded line-up is Arif Zakaria, who will play the role of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, the writer of the classic tale.
We have brought onboard the internationally renowned director of The Merchants of Bollywood & Taj Express, Toby Gough, Co-directed by renowned Indian director Ranga Godbole, technical director & production designer Tom Kitney - a champion of technology, whose artistic practice involves combining lighting, sound, carpentry, electronics and design into theatre, events, and installations. To bring the Musical magic alive we have some of the most prominent singers like Shaan, Shail Hada, Bhoomi Trivedi, Alka Yagnik, Suresh Wadkar, to name a few to create an original score also supported by the songs of Bollywood hit film Devdas. The poignant music is brought to life by graceful choreography, featuring stunning performances and a fusion of Indian classic and contemporary dance styles artistically choregraphed by passionate Choreographer Devendra Singh (Debu).
