Often, the vocalist is at the forefront of attention while the pianist is treated as an accompaniment. New York jazz regulars Vuyo Sotashe and Chris Pattishall break this stereotype easily—pushing and pulling with practiced ease like dancers taking turns to lead. They absolutely enchanted a sold-out audience at Jazz in July 2025 in a single evening, which is unsurprising, considering Sotashe’s radiant warmth and enveloping voice, alongside Pattishall’s elegant and fluid expressions on the piano. They recreated this magic once more in this intimate Cargo Lift Sessions, performing two atypical cuts of jazz love songs that perfectly showcased their complementary artistry.
