Synopsis
Singapore Flamenco Festival 2025 unveils “the courage of the soul” – a celebration of courage, culture & connection.
Singapore’s arts scene will ignite with passion this September as the Singapore Flamenco Festival 2025 returns with its boldest edition yet: El Valor del Alma (The Courage of the Soul).
At the heart of this festival, we are honoured to feature a restaging of the highly-acclaimed Spanish production, Tauromagia — a compelling exploration of the emotional and cultural richness of flamenco, evoking the essence of Spain’s deep-rooted traditions. The performance is a musical voyage that delves into the profound and timeless interrelation between flamenco dance and the bullfight, serving as both a visual and emotive spectacle. First staged in the prestigious Festival de Jerez (Spain) in 2018 to critical acclaim, Tauromagia features the virtuoso skill of award-winning Spanish dancer, Mercedes Ruiz, a leading figure in the world of flamenco.
Now staging in Singapore for the very first time, Ruiz will reprise her original role and oversee the choreography and creative direction of the production. The music features original compositions by renowned composer-guitarist Santiago Lara, complemented by the soaring vocals of acclaimed flamenco singer David Lagos — paying homage to the legendary Manolo Sanlúcar, composer of the iconic flamenco album Tauromagia, from which the show draws its title and inspiration.
Uniquely, for this local staging of Tauromagia, SFF2025’s presentation will feature 8 Singaporean dancers from the Flamenco Sin Fronteras dance company.
