In celebration of Singapore's 60th Anniversary in 2025, Memoirs in Music by the Nanyang Collective is a moving, multidisciplinary concert that reimagines our national journey through contemporary music and multimedia storytelling.
This project pays tribute to the pioneers who shaped Singapore, blending powerful original compositions with narration, visuals, and theatrical elements to create an immersive and reflective experience. At the heart of the performance is a storyteller, who takes on the voice of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Through carefully selected excerpts from the late Mr Lee's life, the storyteller will guide the audience through key historical milestones, offering a personal and emotional lens on our shared past - almost as if the late Mr Lee himself were recounting the Singapore Story.
Each of the movements of the concert corresponds to a defining moment in our nation's history. Inspired by these chapters, composers create new works that evoke the spirit, sacrifice, and transformation of those times. The result is a musical archive that bridges memory and emotion, honouring the hardship and resilience of our forebears. Supported by lighting and stagecraft, this production seeks to stir hearts, spark reflection, and celebrate our national identity through the universal language of music.
More than a concert, Memoirs in Music is a tribute, a remembrance, and a call to connect with the legacy that continues to shape who we are.
