Having written a bunch of songs, the next thing Ario Hendarwan needed to do was form a band. Fortunately, he was a student at the Jakarta Institute of Arts where it wasn’t too hard to find like-minded peers. And so, The Adams was formed in 2002, and they soon established themselves in the local independent music scene thanks to their catchy tunes, sweet harmonies, loud guitars and heartfelt lyrics. The band gained acclaim and a packed touring schedule with their 2005 debut self-titled album The Adams and its 2006 sequel release, V2.05.
The advent of streaming and social media enabled a new generation to discover The Adams, which revived the band’s momentum, leading to the 2019 release of their third album Agterplaas. The Adams reached new heights, becoming one of Indonesia’s most in-demand indie rock bands. In 2022, they performed alongside one of their major music influences, American rock band Weezer. In 2024, The Adams further expanded their musical horizons through collaborations with hip-hop artist Basboi and EDM producer Dipha Barus.
The Adams comprises Ario Hendarwan (vocals, guitar), Saleh Husein (vocals, guitar) and Gigih Suryoprayogo (drums, vocals).
The Adams performed on 1 Nov 2025, Sat, 8.50pm at the Arena (DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre at Esplanade) as part of Baybeats 2025.
About the festival
The 24th edition of Baybeats, presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, took place from 30 Oct – 2 Nov 2025. This year's festival was four days, instead of its usual three, and featured five stages, with the return of our Livewire Stage at the Forecourt Garden.
Each year, Baybeats works hard to bring together a diverse mix of alternative artists, from Singapore and around the world. Baybeats hopes to create a space where emerging and established artists share the same stages, where boundaries fade, and where a passion for music and shared moments are what truly matter.
As Singapore’s largest free alternative music festival, the success of Baybeats is built upon years of strong support from our independent music scene, from musicians and fans who have grown with the festival (and now bring their families along), to our Baybeats Budding Bands and first-time festival-goers. Baybeats thrives because of everyone’s unwavering support and belief in alternative music.
